On January 20, 2020, the coffee bean has been declared a national symbol for its role in the social, economic and cultural development of Costa Rica.

For years, coffee has been called by Costa Ricans “the golden grain” since it represents the economic prosperity brought to the country. Coffee production has been a significant part of our economy and history.

The Asamblea Legislativa (our version of Congress) voted unanimously to this bill. The bill has to be approved on a second round on January 27 to become official.
