Manuel Antonio is one of the most visited destinations in Costa Rica - a natural paradise located just south of Quepos on the Pacific Coast. It is a charming combination of rain forest, coral reefs and beaches; considered by many the most beautiful spot in the country.
The Manuel Antonio National Park is one of the main attractions in the area. It is Costa Rica’s smallest national park but one of the richest in beauty and biodiversity. It’s the natural habitat for over 184 species of birds and 100 species of mammals, including the endangered squirrel monkey, white faced capuchin monkey, raccoons, three and two-toed sloths, white-nosed coaties, brown pelicans, black-collared hawks and green kingfishers. They share the space with primary and secondary forests, which are also home to a great number of cedars, bully trees, black locusts and silk cotton trees.
Its vast white sand beaches backed by beautiful green forests with varied flora and fauna make Manuel Antonio National Park the second most visited park in the country. Last year alone, over 140,000 tourists visited the park. . Conservation officials have fixed the park’s carrying capacity at 600 people per day from Tuesdays to Fridays, and 800 on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, and the park is now closed on Monday.
This Costa Rican paradise offers the uniquely breathtaking fusion of scenic mountain beauty and an active lifestyle. From championship surf tournaments, hiking, rafting/kayaking, canopying, bird watching or sport fishing, Quepos and Manuel Antonio have something for everyone. You can also enjoy the beauty of beaches like Espadilla Sur, Puerto Escondido and Manuel Antonio. Here you can also enjoy scuba diving, snorkeling, as well as dolphin and migrating whales watch tours, which are very popular in the area.
Even though Manuel Antonio is one of the most exclusive areas in Costa Rica, there are hotels to suit every budget. Because of the area’s size, many hotels were built on the road to Manuel Antonio overlooking the beautiful ocean. More inexpensive hotels are found down close to the beach and in Quepos downtown, which is about 10 minutes from the nearest beach.
