This Sunday 7th of October, our country is going to live for the first time in the history a referendum. This is to take a popular decision about the Free Commercial Treatment with United States.
Thousands of opponents of the Free Commercial Treatment (TLC) met yesterday in San Jose, to exhibit the spirit to destroy the people who believe that the Agreement will be constructive to our country.
In a pacific atmosphere and loaded with invocations of the national emblems, the demonstrators heard from their coordinator, Eugenio Trejos, allusions made of the historical figures like Juanito Mora and Pancha Carrasco.
Trejos evoked these characters to request them “to shoot” the votes that defend the movement of the TLC between the United States, Central America and Dominican Republic.
This organization was made two days after a national newspaper of the country “La Nacion” published a survey with technical tie between yes and no.
One of the 200 delegates sent by the Supreme Court of Elections (TSE), Ólger Gonzalez, indicated that there was a single misfortune by a small plane that flew over San Jose to exhibit a message for voting with a yes in the referendum. “They could not be in this sector, although outside in the air, it is a provocative act”, Gonzales explained.
“The hour has arrived to say no’ to this TLC and to the infamy campaigns of the blackmail Government”, the leader exclaimed in his speech. Then, someone of the public shouted: “Arias it is a filibuster” and Trejos answered: “I share this opinion, dear friend”
Trejos described like “an historical success” this manifestation, but it avoided to calculate the amount of assistants. At the end of its speech he requested “to administrate” during this week the support for the NO to win with more than 63% votes.
The director of the Technological Institute of Costa Rica (ITCR) closed this manifestation with a important discourse in the one he had a lot of participation of national leaders as Flor Maria Avila, the bishop of San Isidro del General of Cartago, Ignacio Trejos.
Other competing leaders attended, but they did not raise the platform but they could be clearly seen, the ex-president Rodrigo Carazo, the leader of the political party Accion Cuidadana (PAC) Otton Solis, the liberationist ex-candidate Rolando Araya and the actual member of the parliament Jose Merino.
