Surely the members of the independent theater group Abya Yala and the National Dance Company (CND) are counting the hours that they lack to quit the stage of XXII Ibero-American Festival Theatre in Cadiz, Spain, from 16 to 27 October.
Abya Yala is going to present art work named Ashes, short works of Samuel Beckett. With this art piece they won the National Award for Best Theater Group in 2006. The presentation will be on Monday 22 and Tuesday 23, October.
The CND is traveling with their show “Erre y Jota”, urban dance and free version of Romeo and Juliet show, where they mix the language of contemporary dance and hip hop. The 22 dancers will be presented at the Grand Theater Falla, in Cadiz, next Saturday.
All the dancers as the actors are just the most visible part of a big delegation that will travel next Monday to attend the inauguration and a number of side events.
David Korish, co-director of Abya Yala along with Roxana Avila said that this trip represents an opportunity to share with a different audience, allows them to be in an international place beyond the Central American region which opens the picture of his work in other showcases.
For his part, Carlos Ovares, dancer, choreographer and director of the CND, recalled that the company has part of its objectives to seek in the greater international projection, as possible. This is a group capable of performing arts in Costa Rica with a high quality.
The selection of works was responsibility of Pepe Bable, director of the festival, he was in the country watching several shows and looking for a cultural and an original identification.
In both companies, the national awards are known and recent topic. The director Korish believes that there is a single answer on how to make a work that is often recognized as hard work.
The state company, according to the director, it has several parameters to follow and maintain pace and high quality in their performances.
For example, they are looking to be better, be very transparent and open to invite choreographers and dancers regularly to their shows.
The CND also conduct an artistic exchange where hip hop dancers of Costa Rica will participate hand to hand with Spanish companies in a break dance, in a outdoor event.
