First draft of TLC becomes a law

With 32 votes in favor and 11 against, last night the Legislature passed into the law the first eleven projects of the implementation agenda of the TLC with the United States, Central America and the Dominican Republic.

The Law reform on the Protection of the Foreign Representative Houses won the final endorsement at the 11 pm in a long meeting.

The plan was approved on first reading in October 23 and thereafter, the members of the Citizen Action Party (PAC) sent it to consult in the Constitutional Court.

Last Friday, the Board returned the project to the Congress after determining that it has no constitutional defects.

Thus, yesterday it was read in the plenary the report of the Constitutional Court and submitted to the second debate, despite the demands of legislators who oppose TLC and its laws.

The reform establishes a new framework of relations between the foreign houses and their representatives in our country.

Members of PAC warned that this law doesn´t protects the representatives, who are mostly small to medium-sized merchants.

For its part, fractions in favor of the Treaty welcomed the approval.

Consistent with our principles and faithful to the mandate of the people last October 7 (referendum), we supported this law, "said Lorena Vasquez head of fraction in the Christian Social Unit Party.

There are still 10 projects waiting for the approval, but there are not joined the flow of legislation. According to the Executive entire implementation agenda it should be ready in the 1st March, the dead-day for it to enter into the force trade agreement.
