Who We Are

After several years in the education field, and later being involved in the tourism industry, we found the need for a program that combined the teaching of the Spanish language with the immersion in Latin American culture.

Our school was one of the first in Costa Rica to develop this type of program, which includes Spanish classes and cultural activities such as Latin Dance, Costa Rican Cooking, and educational trips. Since 1989 the Costa Rican Language Academy has been offering students an authentic cultural experience along with first rate Spanish instruction. Our school is completely owned and run by Costa Ricans, which ensures a true immersion in our culture.

OUR MISSION
At the Costa Rican Language Academy our mission is to always provide our students with a complete and effective learning experience in the Spanish language and a deeper understanding of the Costa Rican culture through personalized attention and dynamic teaching methods in a professional and friendly atmosphere.

Only things which are pleasant and fun can be learned quickly and easily, and for this reason the essence of our courses is varied and active teaching. Our aim is to give classes which are intensive yet enjoyable. We also give each student the personal attention needed to reach his or her language goals.

OUR INSTRUCTORS
The CRLA has a permanent teaching staff of 18 instructors. During the high season our staff increases to 29 teachers in order to ensure small groups and personalized attention.

Our teaching staff is accredited with the Costa Rican Ministry of Education and all of our instructors possess university degrees in Spanish, Education, Linguistics or Philology from the University of Costa Rica or the Universidad Nacional (the two most prestigious universities in the country). Some instructors hold a Graduate Degree and others have additional studies in areas such as Journalism, Law, Sociology, Literature, Poetry, Drama, and other fields.

Most of our teachers have worked at our school for more than three years and all have ample experience teaching Spanish as a second language.

Our instructors are not only very professional, they are enthusiastic and friendly:
